General

What is LexNet?

LexNet is a division of Lexington Electric System that offers high-speed internet and phone services through a fiber optic network.

Who will have access to LexNet’s services?

All Lexington Electric System customers will have access to LexNet’s service offerings. Our fiber optic network was designed with the capacity to supply broadband services across the entire LES footprint.

Will offering broadband services cause my electric rates to go up?

No. Studies have shown that the revenues generated from broadband sales should result in LexNet’s operations being self-funded. There should be no financial impact to the LES ratepayer as a result of LexNet.

When and where do I pay my bill?

When your LexNet service is installed, you will be emailed with your first invoice. You can pay your invoice through the link on your email, or you can go to the customer portal and make payments there.

You can also set up autopay to avoid late payments and disconnects.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No, LexNet does not require a contract. We want to make our service hassle free.

What equipment will I need?

None. LexNet will provide the equipment needed for your broadband services and Wi-Fi coverage. The equipment we include is capable of sufficiently providing Wi-Fi coverage for most cases. However, some homes, especially larger ones, may need additional Wi-Fi equipment to properly cover the entire home. LexNet offers a “whole home Wi-Fi” solution for these scenarios. The “whole home Wi-Fi” package includes 2 additional access points, as well as a complimentary site survey of your home to determine the ideal location of equipment. This package is an additional $15.99 per month, and additional access points can be purchased for $9.99 per month.

Customers may also choose to provide their own Wi-Fi equipment.

Do I have to use LexNet’s Wi-Fi router or can I use my own?

You can choose to use your own Wi-Fi equipment. However, LexNet can only support speed and connectivity issues with the equipment we provide. We will not be able to troubleshoot any issues you may be experiencing with your own Wi-Fi router.

Is there a data cap or limit to these services?

No. We don’t cap or throttle data.

Will LexNet offer phone service?

Yes. LexNet offers phone packages for both residential and business solutions.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

In most cases, customers can change internet providers and still be able to keep their old phone number.

The Technology

What is a fiber optic network?

Fiber cable consists of several tiny strands of glass. Data is pushed through the glass strands via light waves. Since light is used to pass the data through the cable, the speed at which this data travels is much faster than traditional copper lines.

With a fiber-to-the-home network, LexNet is able to offer high-speed, symmetrical speeds to each of our customers. This means you’ll be able to enjoy the same speeds whether uploading or downloading data.
